Larkhall - 20th of May - Round Four WSKC Championship & Round Three of the NKRA Championship
(Bright sunny and dry day)
The bright and sunny Sunday morning was rudely interupted by the roar of a large number of Honda and Comer engines as the cadets roared out of the pits for their three lap practice.
Junior TKM saw the Intrepid pairing of Jamie and Jordan resting on the grid taking last minute race instructions. These two experienced racers knew what had to be done and by turn one both had secured themselves safely in the body of the pack. The pace was quick and soon the tyre pressures told and the gaps grew, but swinging round the final bend to take the flag came Jordan and Jamie both happily pegged in the top 5. All was going well with the pair until heat three saw Jamie’s engine refuse to engage and ultimately his retirement from the heat, Jordan went on to complete the race in his third placing of the day. With the grid decided for the final Jordan started 3rd on the favored left side and Jamie on the. When the racing began it was evident the front two were in no mood to mess and set off at top speed as Jordan and the next two karts could only watch as the gap grew. Before long it became a battle for third, positions swapping every lap, with just over a minute to go Jordan dived in at pit bend catching the two drivers off guard taking the leading roll however an assist at the hairpin pushed him wide and once again the pair moved in front. With two laps to go Jordan dived in again once more leading into the hairpin, however this time the job was done properly and Jordan enjoyed a very bumpy grass cut on the embankment losing several positions before rejoining. Meanwhile just behind the battle, Jamie had been doing some good steady work and by the flag had raced himself into a very creditable 4th place with Jordan finishing 7th.
Our Junior Blue driver for the day was Graeme who looking resplendent in his new intrepid kart suit, had there been a trophy for best dressed there would have been no competition on the day. With the klaxon sounding he placed his kart on the grid and stepped aboard, this healthy grid of top drivers was going to make this an interesting day for the young Ayrshire racer. As they edged round pit bend to the start line he pushed his kart forward and shut the gap making sure no one got the jump on him. It turned out to be a very mixed bag for Graeme in the heats however undeterred he pushed himself into spot on the grid for the final. It was a tough start for the Clan driver and
The Clan quintet of Steve, Fergus, Scott, Dougie and Ciaran trotted out for the Senior Blue heats with the drivers and Intrepid Cruisers taking their place on the grid. As the horn sounded the minute warning, the thumbs up were given, the visors were shut and the game faces came on (not a pretty sight). As the sea of karts roared through the plume of thick smoke, the Clan team jostled for position with the usual suspects pushing their way to the front of the pack. The pace was quick and the pack began to string out with the front six chasing the leader, it was Dougie who seized the chance pushing hard to take the flag and claim first blood for the day. Scott, Steve, Fergus and Ciaran were all running well with some very quick times being posted. All the heats gone and the points accumulated our Clan drivers settled down on the grid for the final. Was this the calm before the storm? Well that was proven to be the case as the final got underway with a “Tora”, “Tora” suicide attack from young Fergus as he drove down the middle of the pack and emerged from the left hander in fifth position! Suddenly four of the Clan boys were in the top 7 karts and running well. Whilst the race ran on and the positions changed lap by lap, poor old Steve became the first casualty with carburetion problems and found himself struggling to keep pace spluttering at the rear. With the last lap board shown it was a chase to the finish with Dougie just being pushed into second place, Ciaran came 5th, Fergus 6th, Scott 9th and Steve bringing up the rear in 18th position.

Larkhall - 15th of April - Round Three WSKC Championship
(Cold but dry and sunny)
Round three of the WSKC championships saw our two Honda Cadet drivers compete with a grid of 14 other wannabe champions. With the day heating gradually, the times in the heats were getting quicker and quicker, the competition growing, by heat three both drivers had had their share of drama, spins and collisions. As the two Clan drivers met on the grid for the final it was clear they had their work cut out ahead of them. As the race began the sea of karts hurtled toward the first left hander and the two Clan boys hugged the inside track leapfrogging the slow in mind. With half of the race gone and the grid strung out, young Cameron E entered the lower hairpin to find another driver assisting him around the corner, with a screech of tyres he found himself spun to a standstill. The determined young Cadet showed the "Tiger" in him and promptly rejoined the race to show the other drivers he meant business. Meanwhile further up the field Cameron T had taken on board his race instructions and gained good advantage from the start, battling with another eager novice for the win. The clockwork mice ran around together, a bumper apart, until the last lap when finally "Cammy-kaze" closed his eyes and dived down the inside of turn one, success was his and he emerged the leader. The two now glued together entered the hairpin and a coming together saw the young Clan driver pushed wide, allowing the tailing kart to run through and take the flag by a kart length. Cameron T finished in 6th place taking the second novice prize with a fastest lap only 2 tenths off the race winner and despite the spin Cameron E made some of the time up and finished 10th. Well done to both drivers.
Flying the flag for Clan in Minimax was Sam, who was in fine company with the arrival of all the Super One big guns making it a very healthy and competitive grid. In true fashion with the arrival of the very experienced Super One drivers, standards of driving were raised and Sam soon showed that he had a match for them in pace and determination. The Clan tent was a frenzy of activity as the mechanics made the necessary changes to ensure that Sam stayed on the pace with the visitors. With the heats finished Sam had eased himself up amongst the top eight and mid grid. The final began at a fierce pace and soon the gaps were pronounced as the dominant karts pushed forward their pace advantage, the race ended with Sam gaining some fantastic racing experience and putting in a very creditable performance coming home in 8th place.

Banff - 8th of April - Round Two NKRA Championship
(Very mixed weather, cool and mainly bright with frequent rain showers)
Starting the day off with a bang, two of our young Honda Cadets lined up to take on the best in the North. As the heats wore on these two young guns consistently cythed through the grid, finishing first and second and earning their front row starts for the final. Cameron E took pole and Cameron T rolled alongside for the no 2 slot. The two tigers purred round the pit bend and roared into life after the start line, Cameron E led the grid up the straight and into the first corner but it was Cameron T who caught the imagination of the crowd with a quite stunning drive around the outside of the leader to push in and take control of the race. With a fierce pace being set from the front the beleagured cadets gave chase but it was all to no avail, young Cameron T took the flag and the cheers from the crowd for his first ever win. Cameron E battled bravely and fended off a late surge from behind to take the no 2 slot. Quite a day for the two young cadets.
In Mini max Sam flew the flag for Clan with yet another steady performance, Mr Reliable proved once again that this seasons step up to Mini Max was no quantum leap as he jousted for one of the top podium spots. With some determined driving Sam kept himself up with the race leader despite some very changeable conditions and a very slippery track. In the final it was no 2 off the grid for Sam and once again the two familiar helmets split from the pack and started their clock work mouse chase around the Boyndie circuit. With the last lap board shown and a valiant effort given, Sam took the flag in the no 2 spot adding another well earned tin pot to the Clan collection.
Junior Tkm was given the slot behind the Mini Max grid and Jordan eagerly viewed the prize ahead, could he win the race AND catch a Mini or two? race on. With a show of strength in the first two heats Jordan reigned supreme, however when all goes well calamity is generally just around the corner, in this case engine trouble in heat three saw him give up the lead to enter the pits with his race over. With some expert technical tuning, Jordan returned to take pole for the final, as the Minis galloped off in front, the eager TKM's gave chase and Jordan made the corner marginally in front of the second placed kart. As the laps rolled by Jordan strengtened his lead ensuring by lap 7 the gap was considerable. With karts spinning regularly on the geasy surface Jordan nimbly picked his way past and took the flag for another Clan victory.
The Senior Blues proved once again to be the race of the day with Dougie, Scott, Steve and a newly returned to the stable Fergus all vying for the honours. The Clan boys bossed the heats cutting through the smoking ensemble to take their valuable points. Scott leading heat two and about to take his first ever heat win found Dougie in no mood to be considerate, showing some unbelievable driving skills he came through from the back of the pack to take the heat win from Scott with one lap to go, friends in racing? I think not!! At the lunch break the struggling to gain grip Fergus gave his kart "the malky" to straighten his banana shaped chassis, not the most scientific method but clearly effective! With the Clan boys in mixed position for the final grid, Dougie set off in pole and before long stretched a gap big enough from the rest of the pack to stop for a beer and a cigar. However unbeknown to him drama was unfolding behind as Steve ended his weekend with a long walk back to the pits whilst Scott and Fergus began a hilarious game of tig behind the third placed kart. Before long the two collided allowing another contender to slip into the fourth placed slot. The "chase me", "chase me" twins eventually got it together and with one corner left to the flag young Fergus lunged the fourth placed driver and hung him out to dry on the kerb allowing Scot to slip through the gap and follow Fergus over the line. No trophies for the pair of them but what a laugh!!
Summary of the day, three winners, two runners up, two cracking little cadet drivers, some great driving from the juniors and the seniors showing karting is serious but can still be fun.
Saturday 7th April - Pro Kart Endurance Race - 1 hour 30 minutes
The Clan Race Team were outstanding winners, dominating the Pro kart endurance event for the third time running as Ryan, Jordan and Fergus won by a three lap margin, Ryan once again securing the fastest lap - well done boys. It just goes to show it's not all about engines and set up we have great drivers as well.

Larkhall - 19th of March - Round Two WSKC Championship
(Dry bright sunny day but cold with a late light shower)
The Honda Cadet race saw our four young Clan novices Cameron, Andrew, Hannah and Callum all line up on the strong grid and with some very creditable performances for the budding young racers they all indicated their keeness to learn and compete in this highly competitive sport. There were some great personal times logged by Hannah, Andrew and Callum; however it was Cameron who led the way by placing himself well up the grid for the final. With the final under way and a lot of jostling for position the leaders soon stretched the group leaving the healthy pack of novices fighting for the coveted cup. At the race end our team of newly blooded drivers had given a good account of themselves and shown it won’t be long before they too take their rightful place on the podium.
In Mini Max Sam and Louise had been driving well all day and put in some very quick times, with a good start off the final grid both drivers were well placed when the fireworks went off! Avoiding the now infamous "incident" Sam moved into second place and remained there to take the flag for a well deserved podium place whilst Louise put in a very creditable performance with some good personal times. Our Junior Blue driver Graham had a mixed day with some good performances in the heats and showed some great driving in trying to avoid the seemingly standard “carnage”. With several red flags produced it seemed that every heat would involve a re gridding several laps in, however he kept his concentration in the final and produced a credible mid pack performance at the flag.
The Junior TKM race saw Jordan and Jamie run neck and neck all day with only tenths between them, in the final the young duo placed themselves near the front of the grid and got off to a great start. With mechanical failures the call of the day both drivers pushed up to third and fourth place respectively and so they remained until the end of the race, Jordan earning the third placed trophy, a great days racing by both drivers.
Formula Blue saw Dougie, Ciaran, Scott and Steve all line up with the Clan Team dominating the heats. In the final grid line up Dougie and Ciaran pushed to the front and as they got under way got a great start avoiding any early conflict. It wasn't long before Scott experienced a Larkhall "drive through" as one driver so keen to be involved in the race, drove over the top of him! Unfortunately the "drive by shooting" rendered his race over. Dougie and Ciaran were at the other end, with Dougie pushing the pace at the front with Ciaran forming the fourth member of a very close pack and Steve holding his own not far behind the front group. With a few laps to go another "incident" ensued and karts two and three vacated the race allowing Ciaran to close up and form a Clan one, two finish. Steve roared over the line in seventh place and declared himself "knackered" as he pushed his trusty steed back into the awning.
All in all it was another successful weekend for the Clan Team in the silverware department and more importantly another good learning curve for the army of young drivers now joining the team and wishing to make their mark on the Larkhall circuit.

MBKC Wigan - 26th of February - Platinum Cup
In Junior TKM young Jordan Donaldson rolled out onto the grid for only his 3rd race in the class since moving up from Honda Cadets. In a healthy grid of TKM's for the Platinum Cup Jordan battled with some very quick drivers to secure two 3rd and a 4th place finish in the heats giving him a healthy third place start on the grid for the final. With the final underway a squeeze of karts into Valley saw Jordan and the front two karts create a bit of breathing space from the pack, however some stout defending was required on the last lap to ensure the Beith battler secured the final podium spot.
In Senior Blues we had three drivers competing Scott Keenan, Douglas Simpson and Steve Barlow in a show of strength as the Clan Team tore up the track, providing some of the fastest lap times of the day. Scott Keenan in particular found an extra gear during the heats and landed himself the top spot for the final with Dougie in 3rd and Steve starting 7th. The stage was set for a Clan clearance until the second placed kart jumped the start allowing some of the outer row to move into Valley in front of the two leading Clan drivers. It wasn't long before normal service was resumed and Dougie pushed past to lead the line with Scott close on his heels. Steve battled royally with another determined driver and they soon found themselves chasing the galloping pack. The last lap saw Dougie run comfortably over the line to take the flag with Scott hot on the heels of the number two kart and Steve taking the number 8 slot. All in all it was a great result for the Clan boys and testiment to the work behind the scenes of Andy and Ryan.
